A former political staffer and reality television show contestant has been jailed for up to 16 years for attempted murder in New South Wales.
Joel Betts pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his girlfriend Samantha Holland after stabbing her and holding her hostage in their Sydney unit in 2010.
The attack left her with more than two dozen stab wounds in her back and neck.
A court heard she was stabbed after going to pick up her possessions after their relationship ended.
