Knife-wielding mother high on butane gas threatened to cut her own daughter, 14, ‘like a fish’ but collapses and dies in the violent row

A knife-wielding mum who threatened to 'cut her daughter like a fish' while high on butane gas and a cocktail of other drugs died as the terrified teenager attempted to defend herself, an inquest has heard.

The mother, who overcame a heroin addiction only to start sniffing up to 15 canisters of potent butane gas a day, got into an argument with her 14-year-old daughter when her partner left the family home to buy a card for their son’s birthday.

Bolton Coroner’s Court was told the 42-year-old mother took a mixture of drugs including butane gas and benzodiazepines when she thrust a knee into her daughter's chest to pin her to the stairs at the family home in the city’s Breightmet area.

In self-defence the frightened teenager pushed her drugged-up mother off with her foot or knee and the woman fell to the foot of the stairs and collapsed.
