Video captures Chinese take-out owner torturing tiny kittens simply for twisted pleasure

A Chinese restaurant owner in Philadelphia has been caught torturing six helpless kittens in a spine-chilling video filmed by CCTV cameras. Local SPCA enforcement officers were called to the scene after police officers investigating an unrelated shooting found the footage of 25-year-old Yu Zhen Chen recorded in what looks like the back room of his take-out restaurant, Red Star Chinese. During the ten minute clip, Chen tosses the tiny creatures into the air, chokes them, tugs at them and throws them across the ground like bowling balls.

Boy, 10, dies and three other children injured after 'trying to build rocket out of fireworks'

A ten-year-old French boy has died and three other children were injured after getting badly burned while playing with fireworks. One of the wounded youths, aged nine, was in critical condition and two others - the dead boy's twin and an 11-year-old friend - had burns on up to 20 per cent of their bodies, police said. The boys were discovered in a vacant lot in the northern city of Tourcoing, near the Belgian border, with a canister of flammable material, firecrackers and fireworks.

Boy accidentally kills younger brother in Waller County

A 12-year-old Hockley boy accidentally shot and killed his younger brother when they were playing with shotguns unsupervised, officials said. The boys were alone about 11:15 a.m. Sunday at their home in while their parents were at work. They were playing with the guns, a 12-gauge pump shotgun and a 20-gauge shotgun, found in the bedroom closet, said Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith. Shot from the 12-gauge struck the younger brother, 11, in the left shoulder, Smith said. The older boy called his mother and told her his brother had been hurt, Smith said. She drove home from work in Magnolia and called 911. The 11-year-old was taken to Tomball Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 12:26 p.m.

Keys woman known as ‘sea hag’ accused of killing man over beer refusal

A 62-year-old Conch Key woman was arrested on a murder charge Sunday night after being accused of shooting a Keys fisherman five times after he refused to give her a beer. Carolyn Dukeshire, who the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said is known as "the sea hag," reportedly shot Martin Mazur, 64. The incident happened at 53 N. Conch Ave. shortly after 7 p.m. Deputy Becky Herrin said Casey Whippo, 30, of Conch Key told deputies that he and Mazur went to dinner at the Brass Monkey in Marathon. They returned to the house and were sitting outside. They had just opened a beer when Dukeshire walked around the side of the house and asked if she could have one. Whippo said Mazur refused to give her a beer, so Dukeshire shot him twice in the abdomen, twice in the back and once in the wrist, according to Herrin.

Mother, daughter fatally stabbed in Aichi apartment

AICHI — A 43-year-old woman and her 19-year-old daughter were fatally stabbed in their apartment in Komaki, Aichi Prefecture, on Monday afternoon. Police said they received a call at about 5 p.m., saying that a man was bleeding from the stomach in a parking lot. The man, in his 20s, was quoted by police as saying that he tried to kill himself and that there had been some trouble in the nextdoor apartment, TV Asahi reported. Police entered the apartment and found the two women with stab wounds to the stomach and chest. They were taken to hospital where they were pronounced dead a short time later, TV Asahi reported. Police said the daughter’s 2-year-old baby girl was found in another room with head injuries, but she is in a stable condition.

British man stabbed ex girlfriend 50 times after she dumped him in 'brutal and barbaric murder'

A jilted British man was jailed for 19 years today for stabbing his ex girlfriend nearly 50 times after she dumped him. Judges called Alan Daulby's attack on the blonde bar worker ‘brutal and barbaric’ as they sentenced him to just one year short of the maximum jail term that prosecutors were demanding. A jury last month found the 27-year-old British expat guilty of the stabbing murder of Irish woman Avril Flanagan, 20, at his flat on Spain's Costa Blanca on May 29, 2009.

He was convicted of knifing her 47 times around the head, neck, chest, arms and legs before hiding her body in plastic sheeting under his sofa as part of a clinical clean-up of the murder scene and going on the run. Man held for setting former partner on fire

"We have detained a man for attempted murder with an alternative charge of aggravated assault," said Kent Lind at Dalarna police to the Aftonbladet daily. The woman is reported to have gone home to her former partner on Saturday evening to leave their 5-year-old daughter and to inform him that she had begun a new relationship. According to information from several family members, the man became angry, poured petrol over her and set her alight. The woman sustained severe burns in the attack and is currently in the care of Linköping University Hospital. According to information obtained by the newspaper the woman is very badly hurt and will be keep in a drug-induced coma for an extended period of time. The former couple's five-year-old daughter is thought to have witnessed the attack. The man was detained by police after the attack and was on Sunday formally arrested on suspicion of attempted murder with an alternative charge of aggravated assault.

100 peacocks die in Pakistan

Officials on Monday confirmed the deaths of at least 60 peacocks in Thar desert, part of southern Sindh province, over the last week. Local reports say more than 100 of the exotic birds have died. The wildlife ministry said tests were being done to diagnose the cause of death, but said the wild peacocks had been weakened by starvation, deforestation and a lack of safe drinking water blamed on delays to the annual monsoon rains. "Wild peacocks have become susceptible to bacterial and fungal attack, which further suppressed the immunity of the birds that paved the room for viral attack," it said. Experts are alarmed by the number of deaths, suspecting they may have been afflicted with Newcastle disease, known locally as ranikhet.

Rowdy group of eight women stab Manhattan subway rider after he makes wisecrack

A 63-year-old Vietnam veteran from Queens was stabbed on a Manhattan subway train Sunday after making a sarcastic comment about a rowdy gang of eight girls and young women, cops said. Ralph Carnegary of Queens said the raucous riders were being so loud “you couldn’t hear yourself think” as their downtown-bound 6 train neared the 23rd St. station about 6 a.m, officials said. Carnegary, who lives in a veterans shelter in Long Island City, was on his way to work as a souvenir vendor on Wall St. “I couldn’t identify the girl who stabbed me. All my attention was on the knife coming at me,” Carnegary told the Daily News Sunday night. He said the girls turned on him after they overheard him talking to his pal, James Santiago, about how noisy they were. “I just said, ‘Those girls must be retarded because they can’t hear each other talk,’” Carnegary recalled.

Within a second, the furious gals, whose ages range from 15 to 20, went berserk and started pummeling Carnegary with their fists. He was trying to block the blows when he heard another girl yell, “Go for him” and a third girl say, “Cut him.” One of his attackers plunged a knife into Carnegary’s left shoulder, leaving a wound that required seven stitches. “I didn’t think they were actually going to knife me. A lesbian couple admitted to luring one of the women’s former lovers into the woods, beating her and strangling her, and finally burying her in a shallow grave as she took her last breaths. Pennsylvania prosecutors are weighing whether to seek the death penalty for Jade Olmstead and Ashley Barber, the Erie Times-News reported. Their victim, Olmstead’s 20-year-old ex Brandy Stevens, suffocated on the dirt they shoveled into the grave they’d dug in advance of the horrific crime, autopsy results showed. On May 17, the two women told police, Olmstead convinced Stevens to come see a fort she was building in the woods outside their home near Cochranton. Barber, Olmstead’s new girlfriend, was lying in wait at the scene.

They savagely beat Stevens, stuffing a cap into her mouth because “they were freaking out from her screams,” state police Trooper Eric Mallory testified. Barber strangled Stevens with a rope as Olmstead continued to bludgeon her, and head-butted her so hard that she bruised her own forehead. Olmstead and Barber rolled Stevens into the makeshift grave, they said. When they saw that she was still breathing, they slammed a rock into her face and poured water into her nose and mouth before piling on the dirt that eventually killed her.

Richmond man jumps in front of 18-wheeler after stabbing girlfriend

A 33-year-old Richmond man, who died after standing in front of an 18-wheeler Sunday night, had earlier stabbed his girlfriend multiple times, police said. Jack Lopez, 33, and his girlfriend Stacy McDonald, 34, got into an argument Saturday evening at their apartment complex at 2010 Thompson Highway in Richmond, according to the Richmond Police Department. Lopez allegedly stabbed the woman multiple times. She was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital by LifeFlight. Officials said she was in serious but stable condition at the time of the initial report. No update on her condition was immediately available. Officers said Lopez then drove his car to U.S. 59 near Highway 6 in Sugar Land and parked his car in the HOV lane. He got out of his car and stepped in front of an 18-wheeler. He died around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Man fined after child killed by pit bull

A Melbourne man has been fined $11,000 over the death of a four-year-old girl who was attacked by a pit bull terrier last year. Lazor Josevski, 58, of St Albans, pleaded guilty to four charges over the death of Ayen Chol, 4, who was attacked and killed inside her own home by a neighbour's pit bull terrier. The dog, which had no previous history of being violent, escaped from the backyard of Josevski's home when the roller door on his garage failed to close.

The animal attacked three people outside the house and was beaten off with a handbag. But it followed a young child inside and mauled Ayen Chol as she grabbed her mother's legs. Josevski pleaded guilty to charges of owning a dog that attacked and killed a person, two counts of owning a dog that caused serious injury and owning an unregistered dog. It was the first time Josevski has appeared in court to face the family. He was minding the dog for his son, who was overseas.

Seven people were killed in a fiery head-on collision on the freeway near Phoenix, Arizona when a semitrailer truck crossed the median and slammed into a van on Sunday. Department of Public Safety spokesman Carrick Cook said all of the van’s occupants died in the crash that happened on Interstate 10 near the town of Salome. KUNMING - A man was sentenced to death on Saturday for killing 11 people in Southwest China's Yunnan province, a court ruling said. Zhang Yongming, 57, was accused of fatally strangling 11 people in Jinning county from March 2008 to April 2012, according to the Kunming Intermediate People's Court ruling. After the murders, Zhang used various means, including dismemberment, burning and burial, to destroy the evidence, it said. Zhang was given a death sentence with a two-year reprieve in 1979 for the crime of intentional homicide. He was released in September 1997 after receiving a number of sentence reductions, the ruling said. Zhang was given a piece of land by the village and a subsistence allowance from the local government, but he did not feel grateful and continued to commit crimes, the ruling said. Zhang did not show any remorse in court and refused to apologize to the relatives of the victims.

Kevin Cleeves was trying to contact his wife Friday to make arrangements to pick up his daughter Leia, but she didn't answer the phone, so he went to a home in Quincy Township, the (Waynesboro) Record-Herald reported, citing court records. Police said Cleeves, 35, found a woman and a man sitting in a car and began arguing with them, then was ordered to leave. He then shot to death both of them as well as another woman and took the girl, authorities alleged.

Man arrested after triple killing in Sydney's west

New South Wales Police have confirmed three people are dead and a man has been arrested after a shocking incident at a home in Sydney's west. Superintendent Peter Lennon said officers were called to a ground floor unit on Melbourne Road, at the corner of Canley Vale Road, in St John's Park just after 7:00am (AEST). Superintendent Lennon said there police found the bodies of two men and a woman. All the bodies were found in the main bedroom, with two on the bed and one on the floor beside the bed. He said there was a lot of blood inside the unit, and that the bodies of two dogs had also been found at the scene.

Crazed gunman shoots dead innocent bystander and dog and injures two police officers after 'fight with ex-lover'

A man was shot dead in a hail of bullets fired by a crazed gunman engaged in a deadly stand-off with police. He got caught up in Thursday night's gunfire as he sat in his car in the Indianapolis town of Pendleton. The unnamed victim was fatally shot by Jim Kenneth Bailey when the killer opened fire on two policemen responding to reports of shots being fired. After a seven-hour manhunt Bailey then turned the gun on himself. One of the officers, Marty Dulworth, was fighting for his life following the violent attack. He was air-lifted to hospital where he remains in a critical condition, undergoing surgery, having been shot in both legs.

MAKASSAR, Indonesia (AP) — Police say 11 people were killed when a high concrete wall collapsed in a housing complex on central Indonesia's Sulawesi island. South Sulawesi police chief Maj. Gen. Johny Waenal Usman says the 23-foot-high (7-meter-high) wall collapsed and buried several houses Sunday in a housing estate in Makassar, the largest city on Sulawesi. Usman says rescuers found 11 bodies, including a 7-year-old boy, buried under debris. Eight injured people were taken to hospitals, many with cuts, broken bones and head wounds. Police are investigating the cause of the incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour. Last week, a busy bridge collapsed on central Indonesia's Borneo island, leaving at least 21 people dead and scores missing and feared dead.

Party kiss murder: Teen named

Theodore Derrick-Hardie was just 17 when he pulled out a knife and stabbed Warren Rosillo at a birthday party last year. Derrick-Hardie had initially pleaded not guilty to murder but changed his plea on Monday morning, the day his trial was due to start at the High Court in Auckland. The court heard this morning how Derrick-Hardie carried knives in the months leading up to the killing and discussed stabbing people on the social networking website Facebook. On July 29 he and his ex-girlfriend were at a birthday party in the east Auckland suburb of Pakuranga.

Crown prosecutor Warren Cathcart told the court that Derrick-Hardie's ex had been flirting and talking with Mr Rosillo before Derrick-Hardie asked her to leave with him. They went to the front of the property where an argument broke out. Mr Cathcart said Mr Rosillo stepped in. Derrick-Hardie accused his ex-girlfriend of being unfaithful. She responded by kissing Mr Rosillo who returned the kiss. Derrick-Hardie grabbed Mr Rosillo by the neck, and stabbed him in the chest, face and abdomen. Mr Rosillo died at the scene.

Man sought in boy's killing is impaled, dies

DELANO, Calif. -- A man wanted in the beating death of a 2-year-old Kern County boy has been killed in a gruesome accident, authorities said Monday. Delano police made the revelation after the mother of Juan Felix, Noemi Mendoza, 23, was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading no contest to willful cruelty to a child, The Bakersfield Californian reported. Juan died after being taken to a hospital in January 2011 by the mother's live-in boyfriend, Cesar Osuna. An autopsy performed on the boy showed that he died from blunt force trauma. He suffered multiple rib fractures, tearing of abdominal membranes and a skull fracture, according to Delano police reports filed in court. Mendoza was charged for leaving her child in the custody of someone considered dangerous, said Kern County prosecutor Arthur Norris. There were indications the boy had been abused on other occasions, Norris said. After Juan's death, Osuna fled to Mexico, where he worked in construction. Fukushima couple stabbed to death in home

FUKUSHIMA — Police in Fukushima said Friday they have arrested an unemployed 45-year-old man in connection with the murders of a couple who were found murdered at their home on Thursday. Police said the suspect, identified as Akihito Yokokura, allegedly stabbed to death 55-year-old Nobuhiro Endo and his wife 56-year-old Yukiyo Endo at their home in Aizumisato. Their bodies were found at around 6 a.m. on Thursday by family members, TBS reported. A blood-stained knife, that police believe to be the murder weapon, was also discovered nearby. Police said that an eyewitness reported seeing a man running from the area at around the time police estimate the murder took place.

113 dead kittens found in apartment in coastal California town; 51 found alive but neglected in nearby house

SEASIDE, Calif. - Authorities said they found 113 dead kittens in an apartment believed to belong to a cat hoarder, and dozens of ailing adult cats were discovered in a nearby house. None of the dead kittens appeared to be more than two months old, they said. Seaside police and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for Monterey County discovered the animals on Tuesday, SPCA Sgt. Stacy Sanders said. Officers were alerted by a property manager who discovered dead kittens during an inspection.

They received another tip that more cats were moved to a nearby house. There, another group of investigators found 51 adult cats that were alive but sick and neglected. "The cats were living in extremely horrible conditions," Sanders said. "They were separated into two groups and locked into rooms with little to no ventilation. The floors were saturated in urine and feces." Officers stayed about six hours to recover all the cats because an occupant in the house had lost count of how many were there. "We had to go through every nook and cranny, pull apart every bed and chair," Sanders said.

Burglar who called 911 after finding victim’s body gets prison term

A 38-year-old Leavenworth man, who called 911 after finding a woman’s body in the home he was burglarizing, was sentenced Wednesday to two years in prison. Bryon Keylon admitted that on Jan. 8, he broke into a home in the 1900 block of South Fourth Street in Leavenworth. Once inside, he found a dead woman and called police, according to the Leavenworth County Attorney’s office. When police responded, they found the woman in her bed with no indication of foul play.

During their investigation, police found that a window had been broken and learned that the woman’s purse was missing. They also found a button in the broken window. Police asked Keylon why he was in the house, and they noticed that his jacket’s buttons matched the one they found. Keylon eventually admitted to entering the home through the broken window and throwing the purse in a trash bin nearby.

Man who shot St. Charles County deputies is killed after stabbing officer

O'FALLON, Mo. • Deputies shot and killed a man who shot two deputies in an ambush early today and stabbed a police officer who was trying to capture him after a long manhunt near O'Fallon, the St. Charles County sheriff said. One St. Charles County deputy was shot in the wrist; the other was shot twice in the arm and hit by flying glass after bullets shattered a window on his patrol car at about 1 a.m. today. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Then, at about 5:30 a.m., a St. Louis County police officer who was part of that department's SWAT team was stabbed by the suspect as the man confronted a team of searchers. Man 'high on bath salts' beat girl, 7, unconscious in attempt to steal her little pink bike

An Alaska jury has convicted a man of assault and robbery charges for delivering a knockout punch to a then-7-year-old girl when she refused to give up her bike. Byron Syvinski, 34, of Anchorage, was convicted on Wednesday of robbery and six counts of assault in the June 2011 incident. He was accused of punching Am-marie Martin in the head. She fell unconscious and he allegedly hit her several more times. KTUU reported the child, who is now eight years old, was present in the courtroom to hear the verdict. However, she did not testify during the trial.

The vicious attack left Am-marie with skull fractures and a brain injury. Although she has since recovered, her mother said the little girl still suffers from headaches and has difficulties reading and writing. Police said Syvinski appeared to be delirious during his arrest. The defense said he was using bath salts, which mimic effects of cocaine and ecstasy, but there was no trace of them in his system following the attack. During the trial, the doctor who treated Syvinski after the attack confirmed the diagnosis of drug-induced psychosis, rejecting the idea that the defendant was suffering from a mental illness.

The 33-year-old woman was discovered around 3.30am on Wednesday morning by passersby on a street in central Malmö after a man asked them for help lifting what witnesses quickly realized was a human body wrapped in a blanket. Casts of footprints, analyses of shell casings, DNA testing and a map of movements provided by cell phone records led to charges Tuesday against a 46-year-old Kansas City man in the January killing of three people in central Kansas City.
