Bikie gets 30 years in jail for killing

12:10 AEST Wed Dec 9 2009

Bikie and former boxing champion Edward Yost subjected his partner to a series of sadistic and vicious beatings, before leaving her body to rot in his basement.

Natasha Jones was literally bashed to death, her injuries consistent with being continually punched, kicked, stomped on, struck with a blunt instrument and even thrown against a wall.

Yost's evil behaviour even extended to filming his attacks, keeping the video tapes as trophies of his handiwork.

But now he will spend at least 30 years in jail after pleading guilty to murder and a string of sex offences.

In the South Australian Supreme Court on Wednesday, Justice Michael David said the 46-year-old had inflicted a series of injuries on Ms Jones during their relationship.

At times he tied her up for days, humiliated her and abused her, the judge said.

The woman's body was found decomposing in the basement of Yost's home in 2007 after an anonymous tip-off to police.

The former SA boxing titleholder, with links to the Rebels bikie club, was arrested several days later after a siege at another Adelaide address.

Prosecutors said it was hard to imagine a more horrific history of domestic violence while defence counsel said the horrendous relationship existed under an umbrella of serious drug abuse.

In passing sentence, Justice David said he was asked to view one of the videos which depicted Yost's abuse of his victim and hoped Ms Jones' relatives never saw the tape.

"It was the end result of a period of cruel and sadistic behaviour," he said.

The fact that Yost actually decided to keep the video "indicated an evil state of mind".

Justice David set a non-parole period of 30 years, backdated to February, 2007 when Yost was taken into custody.

Yost will be aged in his mid-70s by the time he is due for release.
