Malaga man sentenced for raping daughter

MALAGA - A MAN has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually abusing his daughter, who he located thanks to a reality TV show after 38 years apart. In the sixties, the accused lived in France with his partner and they had two daughters. In 1966, the woman decided to return to Spain with the two girls. In 2003, Francisco, then 65, had returned to Spain and used Antena 3 TV talkshow, El Diario de Patricia, to find his daughters.

In March 2004, he visited the victim at her home in Sagunto, Valencia, and she visited him in Malaga for Easter. That summer, she also came to Malaga to spend a few days with her father and on his birthday, June 6, when they were on the seafront in Torremolinos he kissed her on the mouth. She told him to stop, but on the way back to Malaga city by train, he again kissed and touched her, telling her that she would have to prove to him that night whether she liked men or women.

That night he got into her bed, but apparently left when she asked him to and apologized the following day. However, on several occasions during the following days, he abused and raped her and got angry when she told him she was disgusted. On June 17, she called a friend and told her what was happening, and decided to make up an excuse to leave. He accepted as long as she promised to return.

In court, the accused claimed that his daughter had invented the whole story to get revenge because he abandoned her as a child.

El Diario de Patricia has already come under scrutiny in past years, especially after a young Russian woman was killed by her former partner in 2007, just days after the two had appeared on the programme and she had refused to marry him. The programme had brought the two together despite the fact that he had been sentenced to 11 months in prison for abusing her and had a two-year restraining order against him. She left behind a two-year-old son.

In 2004, on the same programme, a man asked his partner to forgive his infidelity. She accepted, but was found dead just weeks later in the boot of a car.
