SALT LAKE CITY - A 16-year-old boy died Thursday night in Salt Lake City after accidentally shooting himself. Salt Lake City Police said a group of friends were playing cards on 1235 Emery Street when the teen came into the home with a revolver. Police said the teen emptied most of the shells from the gun and believing the gun was unloaded, pulled the trigger and shot himself in the head. Paramedics arrived on the scene and rushed the boy to the hospital. He was alive when emergency crews arrived, but later died at the hospital.
"It happened so fast. We were shocked that it was happening right there," said Sione Tuiono, a cousin of the teen.
The family members in the duplex where the teen lived said he brought a gun, a revolver, in from outside.
"I was downstairs in my room getting ready for work when I heard the shot go off and I came upstairs and I just saw one of my other nephews hold a towel to his head trying to stop the bleeding," said Sione Kini Kini, the victim's uncle.
Police are still investigating the incident.
