Deer Park police released the name of man in custody for allegedly beating a man after offering him a ride home from a bar. Detectives continue their search for a second suspect in the early morning attack.
The 30 year old victim, whose name was not released, had been at Play by Play cafe in Silverton and didn't think he was sober enough to drive himself home. He thought two men who offered to drive him home were being good Samaritans, but soon he learned the pair were actually planning to steal his truck.
Police found the victim lying on the sidewalk at intersection of Webster and Ohio Avenues in Deer Park around 3 a.m.Thursday. The victim told police once he realized the two men were planning to rob him, he tried to take the keys away and that's when the suspects attacked the victim. During the beating the victim called 9-1-1.
Police caught 21 year old Shawn Coffey of Sycamore Township as he tried to run from the scene. He's charged with aggravated robbery.
The other suspect is still on the run.
Police say the victim has some pretty serious injuries, but is expected to be ok.
