A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and his wife are dead after an apparent murder-suicide early this morning, according to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies went to the home of Trooper Eddie Silcox, a 22-year FHP veteran, and his wife Sandra at 4525 E. Seese Lane in Floral City about 3 a.m. today after he called 911 to report a possible domestic disturbance.
By the time deputies arrived, Sandra Silcox had been shot to death and the trooper wounded from what looked like a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the sheriff's office. Both were 48.
Silcox died at Citrus Memorial hospital in Inverness.
No one else was at the house when deputies arrived.
Silcox was assigned to highway patrol Troop C and mainly worked in Citrus and Sumter counties, said FHP Sgt. Larry Kraus.
The couple, married 29 years, had been separated, the sheriff's office said. There had been no other service calls to the house in Floral City, about 65 miles north of Tampa.
Silcox started working at the highway patrol in 1988. Beyond that, his MySpace page offers clues about what type of person he was. He wrote that he was married with two children; that he was a fan of football, NASCAR, fishing, family, Christian and country music. He liked the Bible, considered Jesus his hero and was partial to Westerns when it came to TV and movies, listing "Big Valley," "Gunsmoke," "Cool Hand Luke" and "Lonesome Dove" as favorites. Several photos on his page show him at rodeo events.
Sheriff's office detectives are continuing to investigate.
