A Teesside man stabbed his ex-wife to death on the day she was holding a divorce party, a court has heard.
Brian Jones, 63, of Marske, near Redcar, denies murdering Katrina Jones, 34, last November, claiming he was provoked by her celebration.
Teesside Crown Court heard banners declaring "The Party's Here" and "Congratulations" were put up outside their former home.
Mrs Jones was stabbed nine times in the chest and three times in the arm.
Mr Jones, who was staying next door with a neighbour despite renting a flat in another street, claimed he snapped after he saw a photo of himself in the house, with "Pin the tail on the X" written beside it.
'No other man'
The court was told he stabbed her with a kitchen knife, before ringing 999 and telling the operator: "I have stabbed my wife, please come quickly. Will you please come and save her?"
Later, he told the call handler: "I don't want her to die, I love her to bits."
The body of Mrs Jones was found with a streamer draped across it.
The jury heard the couple's 10-year marriage began to crumble late in 2008, and Mrs Jones started divorce proceedings after she began an affair with old friend.
Franz Muller QC, prosecuting, said Mrs Jones had told her new lover that her husband had warned that "if he couldn't have her, no other man could".
The divorce came through in September, some weeks before Mr Jones killed her at their former home in Church Close, Marske, the court heard.
Mr Jones told police in a statement that he "snapped" and suffered a temporary loss of control.
At an earlier hearing Jones pleaded not guilty to murder, claiming diminished responsibility and provocation.
The case, expected to last two weeks, continues.
