SCOTTSDALE - An adult male has been found dead, apparently as a result of a gunshot to the leg at the hands of his father.
About 5 p.m. Thursday, police responded to a home near Granite Reef and Chaparral Rd. A man reported that his 39-year-old son had broken into his home.
When officers arrived, the shooting victim had fled the scene. The father told police that his son David Pain, who didn't live there, forced his way into the home.
An altercation ensued and the father apparently shot the son in the leg. Pain then fled with his friends in a car.
Then at about 6 p.m., Mesa Police found Pain, dead in a Mesa hotel parking lot. He hadn't gone to a hospital.
Police are assuming he died from the same gunshot wound he received in Scottsdale.
The motive for the break-in and the altercation is not known.
The father is cooperating with police. The investigation is ongoing.
