What warrants a guy jumping from a third-story window? Fire? Terrorist attack? For a North Side man Tuesday, it was to avoid going to jail for allegedly not paying child support.
Ronald "Boobie" McIntyre, 35, jumped from a third-story apartment window to escape Cook County sheriff's deputies out to nab him, warrant in hand, for failure to pay about $6,000 in court-ordered support, deputies said.
He failed spectacularly, landing on what appeared to be grass but in actuality was artificial turf covering concrete. McIntyre, of the 1300 block of North Hudson, broke both legs and suffered other injuries, but he still attempted to crawl away from deputies, firing expletives at them, according to the sheriff's office.
He's hospitalized but free until his next court date, Oct. 19, on a judge's order.
McIntyre has been arrested 14 times and has more than 80 criminal convictions not related to the warrant, including 21 assaults, 39 incidences of obstructing justice and 20 convictions for invasion of privacy.
Police said they discovered McIntyre's mishap when they went to the Hudson address, were told by a woman she didn't know where he was, then spotted a child pointing toward the window from which he'd leapt.
