Police officers visited the man’s apartment in Jinbacho on Monday morning. According to police, the man—identified as Isao Takahashi—said he needed to cancel an appointment with an acquaintance at which point he left the apartment and made his way to the roof. He then apparently committed suicide by jumping from the six-floor building, Fuji TV reported. The police search was called off before the closet had been opened.
The two bodies were found at about 5 p.m. on Wednesday when the couple who owned the building were clearing out the man’s apartment. Police say each body was found wrapped in paper and plastic. Investigators say the bodies had begun to decay, making identification difficult. One of the bodies is believed to be a man in his late 30s.
