'Spiritual adviser' slain in Parkdale roominghouse

TORONTO - A former prostitute recently working as a "spiritual adviser" lay dead in her rented Parkdale room for more than a day before worried relatives discovered her body. Toronto Police homicide investigators on Tuesday identified Rita Adams as the victim in a Maynard Ave. roominghouse. Residents on the street in the King St.-Jameson Ave. area said she occupied a room vacated by Ricardo Morrison, when he was charged 16 months ago with second-degree murder and five counts of assault after a series of attacks on mentally disabled adults. Relatives of Adams, 59, went to her room just before 1 p.m. Monday because "they hadn't heard from her for a couple of days," Det.-Sgt. Hank Idsinga said. Her death was declared a homicide after an autopsy a day later disclosed "multiple stab wounds" to her head and torso, Idsinga said.

California boy, 12, admits hanging his small dog ‘to see it die’

A 12-year-old California boy allegedly hanged his small dog on a door handle to "see it die" in a disturbing case of animal cruelty, police said. "I was mad at the dog, so I killed it," the unidentified juvenile casually told investigators after the Friday incident in Salinas, Calif., cops said. "I wanted to see it die," the boy purportedly boasted. Police found the canine corpse after he boy's 19-year-old sister called 911 and blurted out, "He's hurting the dog," before the dispatcher heard a struggle and the line hung up, a Salinas Police spokesman told the Daily News. Police charged Loffley with murder in December and he went on trial in the High Court at Auckland yesterday. Woman's decomposing body found in Denver apartment; husband, dog sitting nearby

DENVER - Officers responding to complaints of a foul smell in a south Denver apartment building made a gruesome yet bizarre discovery earlier this month -- the decomposing body of a woman with her husband and dog sitting nearby. Denver police were called to an apartment building at 1240 South Birch after neighbors complained about the smell. According to a search warrant affidavit obtained by 7NEWS, police entered the apartment using the manager's key and were immediately confronted by a Great Dane in the hallway. The officers also saw a man slumped in a chair blocking the doorway entrance to the living room, the affidavit said. One of the officers told the dog to "leave" and the dog "then turned and jumped on to the couch where officers observed an obvious deceased [woman] slumped on the couch," the affidavit said. When they asked the man how long the woman had been dead, he replied, "She's not dead. She's fine," according to the affidavit. The man appeared to be either intoxicated or "out of sorts," the affidavit said.

Felicia Boots admits killing her two babies

A mother who suffered postnatal depression has admitted killing her two children at their home. Felicia Boots, 35, killed Lily Boots, aged 14 months, and her 10-week-old brother Mason in Wandsworth, south-west London, in May. Her manslaughter plea on the grounds of diminished responsibility was accepted by the prosecution at the Old Bailey, and murder charges were dropped. She was ordered to be detained at a psychiatric hospital. The judge, Mr Justice Fulford, said the case was indescribably sad and what she did was a result of psychological forces beyond her control. Mega church pastor beaten to death with electric guitar by man who rammed car into church

A North Texas congregation is reeling after an attacker rammed a car into a church wall, chased the pastor, and beat him to death with an electric guitar. Police told reporters they didn't know why the unidentified suspect attacked Rev. Danny Kirk Sr., founding pastor of the Greater Sweethome MIssionary Baptist Church. In a harrowing 911 call an unidentified church secretary said that some staff tried to fight him off but that Kirk was in desperate need of an ambulance. When police arrived they had to use a Taser to subdue the man, handcuffed him, and locked him in their patrol car. Sadly it was too late for Kirk who had already died. A maintenance worker who tried to help Kirk was also injured and taken to an area hospital but his condition is unknown. The assailant himself was found unresponsive shortly after being taken into custody and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Dennis told reporters police did not yet know if the suspect knew Kirk, attended the church, or what his motives were for attacking the pastor.

Florida teen admits to killing his mom and her boyfriend

A Florida teenager is facing two charges of first-degree murder after he admitted to cops that he shot his mother and her live-in boyfriend. Benjamin K. Bishop, 18, pawned electronics to buy the shotgun he used to allegedly blow away Imari Shibata and Kelley M. Allen, both 49, Sunday in Oldsmar, WFTS-TV reported. Bishop, who is unemployed, told detectives he got into an argument with his mother Saturday. Dallas woman shoots, kills burglary suspect

DALLAS (AP) — Dallas police say a homeowner who walked in on three men burglarizing her home — including one with a handgun — opened fire on the suspects, killing one. Police say she shot two of the three suspects in the early morning hours of Saturday. Police say 19-year-old Larry Jurvotaie Williams fled and then collapsed behind a neighbor's house. He was taken to the hospital, where he died. The two other suspects fled as well and were then detained by officers at a convenience store parking lot. One was taken to the hospital. Police say they both have outstanding warrants and will be charged with burglary.

Man's remains found in vinyl bag by river in Tokyo

TOKYO — Police said Friday that the remains of a man were found inside a black vinyl bag by a bank of the Arakawa River in Tokyo’s Katsushika Ward. According to police, a man going fishing came across the bag at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. He noticed a foul odor coming from the bag and notified police, NTV reported. Police said the state of decay indicated that the body had been in the bag for several months. They said it was an adult male and was naked. The attack happened about 7 p.m. Friday at Ranch Market in the 200 block of W. Pacific Coast Highway. Police say a 54-year-old man was waiting for his father outside the store when a man in his 20s stepped out from an alley and tossed a bottle filled with an explosive liquid at his feet. The Molotov cocktail exploded, covering the victim in flames while the suspect fled the scene. "It's a serious crime," said Long Beach police Sgt. Aaron Eaton. "It's a crime that I haven't seen in my time as a law enforcement officer." "It's just unbelievable that someone would use that type of weapon against somebody," Eaton added. A retired Church of England priest from East Sussex has denied committing 38 sexual offences against 18 children and young teenagers. Canon Gordon Rideout, 73, of Filching Close, Wannock, is accused of committing offences between 1962 and 1973 in Crawley, London and Hampshire. He pleaded not guilty at Lewes Crown Court to 36 counts of indecent assault and two counts of attempted rape. Mr Rideout was remanded in custody to face trial at a later date. A man with a long history of sexual violence was arrested in northern Germany after a teenage girl he had kidnapped and repeatedly raped managed to escape and raise the alarm. The deceased Guyanese couple, Adytia Ramotar, 37 and Sharon Forbes, 35 were found by their 8-year-old son after what Smyrna police believe was a murder-suicide killing by Mr Ramotar who shot his ex-wife before turning the gun on himself. According to a neighbour, the boy came to his doorstep at around 6.40am holding the weapon and explaining that his parents were both dead.

Mexican teen killed by U.S. border agents was shot SEVEN times in the back after throwing rocks across border

A teenage boy apparently killed after throwing rocks at U.S. Border Patrol agents last week, was hit seven times by gunfire and died on a sidewalk just across the Arizona-Mexico border. Jose Antonio Elena Rodriguez, 16, from Nogales, Sonora, was found dead at the border from gunshot wounds about midnight last Wednesday. An unnamed Mexican official with direct knowledge of the investigation said the teenager was shot multiple times in the back. The mayor of Nogales, Ramon Guzman Munoz said Rodriguez was killed in a 'hail of bullets'. He has described the episode as 'deplorable' and urged a thorough investigation by both U.S. and Mexican authorities.

Bronx middle school teacher disciplined for ordering her students to pray to Jesus

A God-fearing city teacher earned a slap on the wrist for ordering her students to kneel and pray to Jesus, education officials said. Michelle Schindelheim, of Bronx Middle School 301, drew the attention of investigators in March 2011, after students complained that she was forcing them to pray to God instead of teaching them to read. Students told investigators that just before Christmas 2010 the English as a Second Language instructor stopped class and told students “they were going to talk to God.” Then Schindelheim, who is 47 and earns $80,000, ordered students to “sit in a circle and sing and pray to God,” making the kids recite The Lord’s Prayer in their native Spanish. She even whipped out her cell phone and put her priest on speakerphone, so he could listen to her class’s prayers, investigators said.

Lone gunman shoots man and woman at Bronx motel

A jilted lover stalked and shot his ex-girlfriend and her new beau, ignoring the woman’s desperate pleas for mercy early Saturday outside a seedy Bronx motel. The killer was waiting when the couple emerged from the Holiday Motel around 3:10 a.m., and he blasted more than two dozen bullets at the helpless duo, witnesses and police said. “Don’t do it! Don’t do it!” wailed Tracy Bennett, 38, before the shooter gunned down the twosome in the parking lot. The slain woman had an order of protection against her killer, police sources said. Bennett and her boyfriend, Wayne Hamilton, 50, were about to leave in her white Toyota Camry when the gunman sprinted out of the darkness and opened fire, the sources said.
