Child calls police about double murder

Police investigating the murder of a man and a woman in Tasmania's south say they were alerted by the woman's nine-year-old daughter. At a press conference today police said the girl told them her mother and her mother's partner had been shot. Police said the girl also told them a one-year-old boy had been abducted from the property. The bodies of a woman, 31, and a man, 34, were found at a property on Hamilton Plains Road about 5:00am (AEDT). Police conducted a search and found a 59-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the head at Lachlan, 45 kilometres away. The one-year-old, believed to be the alleged gunman's son, was found in a car unharmed. Police said the man is now in the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition.
