Referee dies after he was brutally attacked at soccer match: Father, 46, passes away a week after he was punched by a 17-year-old boy over yellow card warning

A longtime Utah soccer referee who spent one week in a coma after being punched by a teenage player has died. Police say 46-year-old Ricardo Portillo of Salt Lake City died late Saturday night. Portillo passed away at the Intermountain Medical Center in the Salt Lake City suburb of Murray, where he was being treated following an assault during a soccer game last weekend.
