BARRIE - On the day Christopher Dubreuil got out of rehab, he bought a bottle of whiskey, took a couple of anti-anxiety pills, got into an SUV, and killed a young woman as he sped along at 143 km/h.
It was Aug. 11, 2011. Country music fan Ashley Fogal, of Sharon, Ont., was excited about doing some foot-stompin’ to country artist Miranda Lambert at Casino Rama. The 23-year-old and her best friend, Alyssa Blight, also 23, were all dressed up and wearing their cowboy boots.
They almost made it.
Just seconds away from the concert, Dubreuil swerved into their lane and hit Fogal’s vehicle head-on.
In court Wednesday, the now 27-year-old Cobourg man pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
