Police responded to reports that two men had been approached by another man in the parking lot outside of the McDonald’s at 111 Avenue and 106 Street around 6 p.m. Saturday in an attempted robbery.
When the two men refused to hand over their cash, the man lunged at one of them, slicing his shirt and stabbing a 25-year-old man in the back.
The robber then rode across the street on his bicycle to the transit station at Kingsway Mall, approached at 34-year-old man from behind and stabbed him in the left arm.
A 50-year-old women tried to distract the assailant as he chased the 34-year-old victim on foot. The man then got on his bike and rode away, only to return shortly after.
When the man returned, he stabbed the 50-year-old woman in the back, inflicting life-threatening injuries in what police say appears to be retribution for her efforts to aid the 34-year-old victim.
The man tried to escape on his bike before he was apprehended by police. Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor behind the man’s behavior, which was described by police as “erratic.”
