A 19-year-old man is facing multiple charges in connection with an unprovoked stabbing spree near Kingsway Mall

Police responded to reports that two men had been approached by another man in the parking lot outside of the McDonald’s at 111 Avenue and 106 Street around 6 p.m. Saturday in an attempted robbery. When the two men refused to hand over their cash, the man lunged at one of them, slicing his shirt and stabbing a 25-year-old man in the back. The robber then rode across the street on his bicycle to the transit station at Kingsway Mall, approached at 34-year-old man from behind and stabbed him in the left arm.

A 50-year-old women tried to distract the assailant as he chased the 34-year-old victim on foot. The man then got on his bike and rode away, only to return shortly after. When the man returned, he stabbed the 50-year-old woman in the back, inflicting life-threatening injuries in what police say appears to be retribution for her efforts to aid the 34-year-old victim. The man tried to escape on his bike before he was apprehended by police. Alcohol and drugs may have been a factor behind the man’s behavior, which was described by police as “erratic.”
