Inmate Accused In Wife's Stabbing Death

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. -- Authorities said a man awaiting trial in connection with his wife's stabbing death cut off his genitalia and then committed suicide inside of the Macomb County Jail.

Sheriff Mark Hackel said the body of 22-year-old Mohammed Abdul-Fazal Chowdhury was discovered alone about 4 p.m. Friday at the facility about 20 miles northeast of Detroit.

Hackel said Chowdhury sliced an artery in his neck with a razor blade from a shaving tool available through the jail's commissary.

Several sources told Local 4 that before Chowdhury committed suicide, he cut off his genitalia. However, officers could not find the missing body part.

Hackel said that Chowdhury was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hackel said jail officials did not hear or see anything, and Chowdhury had shut the door and covered the window of the room he shared with another inmate.

Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi native, was accused in the Sept. 28 stabbing death of his 25-year-old wife, Suraia Parbin Miah.

When officers arrived, Chowdhury was covered in blood and his wife was lying face down on the kitchen floor with numerous stab wounds to her upper body.

The couple's 2-year-old son was sleeping in the next room.
