A scavenger in Batam has confessed to killing an acquaintance and eating his organs in an effort to gain mystical powers.
Harun, 28, was arrested for allegedly killing 28-year-old Fahmi in October 2009 at Batam’s Legenda Malaka housing complex.
“I’m sorry for killing him,” he told SCTV on Monday, adding that he had not gotten “any power at all” from the ritual.
Harun told police he chose Fahmi as his victim because he hated him.
“I hit his head with a jackhammer and I waited for half an hour until I was sure that he was dead before I cut his stomach and took out his heart and liver,” he said. Harun allegedly wrapped the body in plastic and kept it in a wooden box, eating the organs one by one every Thursday night.
Local residents found Fahmi’s body in a warehouse where Harun often slept. An autopsy showed all the victim’s internal organs were missing.
Fahmi was scheduled to be buried in his hometown of Tegal, Central Java, on Tuesday.
In 2003, a man in Banyumas, Central Java, was arrested for eating a corpse he had stolen from a grave. He served five years in prison before his release last year.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
