Posted by willoughby mariano on March, 11 2010 6:43 PM Seven-month-old Mark Ward was taken off life support today. Lakeland police said his stepfather Ryan Joe Clarke, 29, of Orlando is responsible for the deadly beating.
Clarke is being held in Polk County Jail child abuse-related charges, and investigators expect to upgrade his charges. Police think he was frustrated over the boy’s crying and pounded his head against a wall, according to a story by the Lakeland Ledger
Mark’s death is only the latest baby beating. This week, Marion County deputy sheriffs said a U.S. Navy deserter beat his child.
Earlier this month, a Lake County man admitted to torturing his child and called himself a “monster:”
“Young later told deputies that he squeezed the child’s chest with both hands wrapped around it about two times a week for roughly one month. He said he squeezed the child’s chest hard enough to cause injury an estimated seven to 10 times, the report says.”
The Lake man also said he would bend her wrists and fingers until she cried and wrenched her arm around her back.
Some people link extremely violent behavior toward children to the stress the recession has placed on families. Last year, local child protection authorities said that while there has not been an increase in abuse, the incidents seem to be more horrific and extreme.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
