FRESNO -- A Fresno woman accused of repeatedly stabbing her 3-year-old son and throwing him down a flight of cement stairs has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges.
Thirty-year-old Vanessa Rincon also pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of corporal injury to a child.
Fresno police officers were called to Rincon's apartment at around 4 p.m. on Tuesday after a neighbor said he saw 3-year-old Noah outside the apartment with stab wounds, police said.
The 30-year old woman screamed at paramedics who arrived at the scene, telling them to stay away from the boy.
She had to be held back by officers, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said.
The boy had stab wounds all over his body, according to Dyer.
He was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
Police said Rincon acknowledged stabbing her son, but would not say why.
A witness also reported seeing Rincon push the boy down a staircase.
The toddler is in stable condition at Community Regional Medical Center.
A 2-month-old-girl at Rincon's apartment was unharmed and taken into custody.
Dyer said he did not know if Rincon was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the incident.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
