CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Police arrested a 17-year-old boy Monday night who is charged in the slayings of his grandparents in their home in Manchester.
Police captured Isaiah Sweet about 7 p.m. in Cedar Rapids after a short chase, said Larry Hedlund, an agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
The arrest came after officer following leads tracked Sweet to a four-block area along railroad tracks in northeast Cedar Rapids.
Earlier Monday, the teen was charged with two counts of first degree murder in the death of his grandparents, Richard Sweet, 55, and his wife, Janet Sweet, 62.
Their bodies were found Sunday afternoon when relatives arrived for a Mother's Day gathering. A 911 call was made about 20 minutes later. Police said their grandson had been living with them. Iowa boy, 17, charged in slayings of grandparents
