20-year-old man turns himself in at Tokyo police station for killing his mother in Sapporo

TOKYO — Police said Monday that a 20-year-old man turned himself at a Tokyo police station on Sunday, confessing to the murder of his mother in Sapporo. According to police, the body of Nami Saito, 51, was discovered by Sapporo police on Sunday afternoon in an apartment in Shiroishi Ward, TV Asahi quoted police as saying. Police said she had been strangled to death. On Sunday morning, Saito’s son showed up at a police station in Tokyo, carrying a knife in a bag, and said he had just arrived in Tokyo after killing his mother in Sapporo. Police replaced him under arrest for violating the Firearms and Swords Control law. Following his confession, police contacted Sapporo police who discovered Saito’s body.
