OSLOB, Cebu — What started as an argument over a cow that ate up young coconut plants turned bloody when the plants’ owner hacked, then beheaded the owner of the cow in Barangay Lagundi, this town.
It will be a sad Christmas for the family of Joan Cabilte, 23, who was hacked and then beheaded by her neighbor, Emelio Dalumpenis, 45, after they argued over Cabilte’s cow eating up young coconut plants growing in Dalumpenis’s farm.
Cabilte’s severed head was later found off a cliff, some 100 meters from her body, the police said Monday.
Oslob police investigators said Cabilte was pasturing her cow at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday when the suspect suddenly confronted her. Cabilte was on land property owned by Dalumpenis.
The cow reportedly munched on the young coconut plants that the suspect was tending on his farm, triggering his outburst, the police said.
A heated argument followed between the two, whose families have not been in good terms in past years. In the course of the argument,
Dalumpenis allegedly pulled out his scythe and hacked the victim several times, killing her.
Still not contented with stabbing the victim, the suspect allegedly beheaded Cabilte and threw her head down a cliff 100 meters away from her body.
Responding policemen apprehended Dalumpenis after they reportedly came across him while he was walking down the road, having in his possession the scythe believed to have been used in the crime.
The relatives of the victim have asked the police to do an autopsy on Cabilte’s body. While police confirmed there was bad blood between the victim’s father and the suspect, they are also looking into other possible motives behind the crime.
