MORGANTON -- A Tennessee man survived his own vehicle’s crash early Wednesday morning, but an oncoming vehicle struck and killed him.
John Franklin, 41, of Kingsport, Tenn. was traveling east around 3 a.m. on Interstate 40 near mile marker 98 when he ran off the road, struck a guardrail and his vehicle overturned, North Carolina State Highway Patrol Sgt. D.B. Conley said.
A truck driver stopped to assist Franklin, who appeared fine and had exited his vehicle, Conley said. Franklin told the truck driver he was looking for his cell phone.
During the search, Franklin walked into the eastbound travel lanes and a 1999 Ford F-150 pick-up truck struck him, Conley said. Franklin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Conley said the District Attorney’s Office would determine if any charges are pressed against the driver of the pick-up truck.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
