A convicted sex offender in Indiana admitted to raping and strangling his 17-year-old neighbor in a stunning, cold-blooded confession to the press, saying he snapped during the attack and "blocked out" the girl's screams for mercy.
"I just lost it in my head. I just lost control," sex fiend Richard Hooten told reporters at the Clark County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, according to The Courier-Journal newspaper.
Hooten had not yet been met with a lawyer when he sat before reporters looking haggard in an orange jumpsuit and described killing teen neighbor Tara Willenborg in her Clarksville apartment early Saturday.
After his arrest, Hooten, a wanted sex offender, told cops he knew he was going rape the teen as soon as he saw her sitting on the stoop of their building at around midnight on Friday, the newspaper reported.
The 49-year-old said he'd been drinking with pals earlier in the day before he returned home to the Cambridge Square Apartments and saw Willenborg sitting out front.
"I went in my apartment and came back out and she was still sitting out there," he said. "I asked if she wanted to hang out so we went in to her apartment and starting hanging out."
