44 killed as Taliban storm Afghan court

At least 44 people were killed by Taliban militants who stormed an Afghan court complex on Wednesday in an apparent attempt to free insurgents standing trial, officials said. The bomb and shooting attack took place in the western town of Farah, with a fire-fight lasting hours after the assault began. A spokesman for the Afghan interior ministry said 91 people had been injured in the attack. "I can confirm that 34 civilians, six army and four policemen have been killed and 91 people, the majority of them civilians, have been injured," said deputy spokesman Najib Danish.
