A pedestrian died Tuesday evening after he reportedly stepped into traffic and was struck by multiple vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 near Fields Landing.

”We don't know if he was crossing (the highway) or it was intentional or what,” Powell said, adding that the man stepped directly into the path of an oncoming pickup truck. “He came out right in front of the truck, from what we heard from witnesses.”
Powell said that after being struck by the truck, the man's body was hit by an unknown number of cars.
”At least three vehicles struck him,” Powell said, adding that three drivers stopped at the scene to report having hit the man.
Powell said the man appears to have been a panhandler of some sort, as a cardboard sign reading, “Anything Helps Have A Nice Day,” was found at the scene.
