A schoolboy obsessed with a TV killer is facing life in prison after being found guilty of battering a woman to death with a hammer in a chilling echo of a soap storyline.
The teenager developed a fixation with Coronation Street murderer John Stape, even studying websites such as 'people who get away with murder in shows' and 'how to get away with murder' before carrying out the copycat killing, a court heard.
He attacked his victim with a claw hammer at her home in Arnold, Nottingham, last April, then padded her body with paper and started a fire using petrol in a bid to destroy any evidence and commit the 'perfect murder'.
