A MAN accused of drinking his housemate's blood after stabbing him to death told cops he was too DRUNK to remember the incident.
Mauricio Mendez Lopez was nicked on Wednesday night after three days hiding out in woods.
The suspect, 42, is alleged to have knifed pal Macario Cruz, 32, to death in the house they shared because he thought he was having an affair with his sister-in-law, Mariella Mendez.
Mariella told cops in Bartow, central Florida, US, that Lopez sipped Cruz's blood from a plastic cup after the slaying as part of a "ritual to help him evade police".
She said: "He had a cup in his hand. He told me 'that dog is dead now, and his life belongs to me'."
Sergeant David Wyant said Lopez had never intended to kill the man.
Officers picked him up as he attempted to escape by hitchhiking.
Sgt Wyant added: "I was not expecting much cooperation because of the crime.
"But it really seemed to me that he felt beaten. It was almost like he knew this was coming."
Lopez has been charged with second-degree murder.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
