ST. LOUIS, MO -- A man being chased by police threw his pregnant girlfriend out of the moving car.
The hour long police chase began Wednesday in Velda City wound into Illinois, and then back into St. Louis across the Martin Luther King Jr. Bridge.
At one point the suspect's car was caught behind a tractor trailer in the bridge's one westbound lane, with a police car pushing against it from behind.
But when the truck reached the west end of the bridge, the car had room to get around it.
The suspect passed other drivers on the shoulder of Interstate 70.
Eventually the suspect got out of the car and ran toward a house in the 4500 block of Harris, where about a dozen officers captured him.
His name has not been released.
The pregnant woman is hospitalized in serious condition.
There's no word yet on why he fled from police.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
