Woman, 43, 'murdered fiance by locking him in smoke-filled storeroom cupboard after running up massive debts'

A woman murdered her fiance after months of lying to him about their failing business and eventual bankruptcy, a court has heard.

Julie Dixon, 43, locked David Twigg, 46, inside a smoke-filled store room cupboard after starting a fire at his joinery workshop and left him to die, Lincoln Crown Court heard.

She then maintained that burglars were responsible, describing how two balaclava-clad men had disturbed them in the workshop where they ran a bespoke joinery business in Burgh Le Marsh, Lincolnshire, on March 13.

The court also heard Dixon had concealed massive debts so successfully that Mr Twigg had no idea of the difficulties they faced.
