Cops called after passerby spots limb jutting from luggage
By Ann Carroll, The GazetteJanuary 15, 2010
MONTREAL – A passerby made the gruesome discovery of a body stuffed in a suitcase downtown Thursday morning.
The witness told police he spotted an abandoned suitcase outside a residence at the corner of de Bullion and Charlotte Sts. at 8:25 a.m. The man said he noticed what appeared to be a foot or leg protruding from the partially open case.
Ambulance technicians called to the scene removed the body of a man, in his mid-20s, from the suitcase and tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him. The man's death was confirmed in the hospital.
Police say the man's death marks the first homicide of 2010 in Montreal.
Details concerning the man's identity and the cause of death have yet to be released.
"There were signs of violence on the man's body, and an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days," Montreal police Constable Olivier Lapointe said.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
