Pensioner Charles Forster, 63, killed his wife Susan by beating her to death with a metal walking stick after a drunken row, a court heard yesterday.
Forster was sentenced to life imprisonment at Newcastle Crown Court after pleading guilty to murder, and must serve a minimum of 13 years and 159 days.
A neighbour who overheard the fatal assault said she heard Forster count down from ten, telling his wife of 28 years that if she didn't get up, he would 'f****** kill' her.
