The conscientious convenience store worker followed the script — but the heartless armed thug didn't.
A Kansas City 7-Eleven clerk working his final shift was fatally shot by a robber on what was his last shift working for the store, according to The Associated Press, and police have no idea why.
Gurpreet Singh, 35, handed over the cash in a bag — and the gunman fired a shot into his abdomen Wednesday, the Associated Press reported.
"He didn't put up a struggle at all," homicide Detective Jeff Cowdrey said. "He did what he was supposed to do and got shot for it."
The mortally wounded Singh called 911 about 1:10 a.m. annd was rushed to a hospital, where he later died during surgery, The Associated Press reported.
The a divorced father of two from India was to start his new job as a hospital kitchen supervisor next week. His brother, Gurbhushan Singh, said he was proud about his new position.
Gurbhushan Singh had the sad task of telling his brother's kids, 7 and 9, that their dad wouldn't be coming home.
Video surveillance cameras recorded the senseless crime, and Kansas City police are trying to identify the killer as well as a man and a woman who were with him, The Associated Press reported
Gurbhushan Singh said his brother could have skipped his final 7-Eleven shifts — where he'd already been robbed a month earlier — but went in because he'd promised to be there.
