A 74-year-old man stabbed his son through the heart in the kitchen of his south London home after a row, the Old Bailey has heard.
Officers found 44-year-old Joseph James in the hallway of his father Ossie James' home in Brockill Crescent, Brockley, in February last year.
Jurors were told police found a pool of blood on the kitchen floor.
Mr James denies murdering his son, who he said came towards him "like a raging bull".
Neil Moore, prosecuting, said: "When the police arrived, they found the defendant sitting in a chair in the living room."
He had to be restrained by officers as they tried to handcuff him, the court heard.
The following day, he handed officers a prepared statement which said: "He came at me like a raging bull and pushed me down on the kitchen floor and hit me on the head with something. I did not murder him."
The case continues.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
