A 27-year-old woman is fighting for her life after being impaled on beach umbrellas after a para-sailing trip went horrifically wrong.
Alejandra White was dragged across a popular Florida beach when a rope line connecting her sail to a speedboat snapped.
Beachgoers watched in horror as White smashed into several umbrellas before slamming into a wooden volleyball pole.
'She looked like a bowling ball,” said eyewitness Toni Counts, as White tumbled helplessly across Clearwater Beach in Florida.
'If it wasn’t for the (wood) post,' Counts added, 'she probably would have gone into the traffic.'
White, visiting the area from Georgia, remains in a critical condition hospital with multiple injuries.
She was parasailing with her fiancée Shane Ladd off the beach which was packed with tourists and locals celebrating Labour Day weekend, a national holiday similar to the UK's August Bank Holiday.
White and her fiancée were on a tandem ride when Ladd's line broke and he plunged over 60ft into the water.
He was able to swim to shore with minor cuts and bruises.
But a gust of wind saw White dragged helplessly towards the beach.
She slammed into beach umbrellas and was dragged at speeds of up to 40mph with her arms and legs flailing.
White came to a shuddering halt after her body slammed into a fixed 4ft high beach pole.
Paramedics were able to stabilise White and she was rushed to hospital.
'The wind picked up really fast and they were trying to pull her back out but she actually wrapped around the pole and hit the dirt,' said eye witness Patrick Register, who tried to administer CPR to White.
Lifeguards ran to the scene and provided medical care.
She was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Centre
The Coast Guard and Florida Fish and Wildlife officers have launched an investigation to find out why the tow line connecting the parasail to the boat snapped.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
