NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. - An 11-year-old boy who was being assisted by another student regarding math questions is accused of attempting to stab him in the neck with a pencil Monday, New Hartford police said.
Officer Shane Yoxall said he was working as a school resource officer at the Sauquoit Valley School District's middle school when he received reports of a possible stabbing in a math class.
The suspect, whose identity police are not releasing due to his age, was being assisted by another 11-year-old student regarding certain math questions. After getting frustrated with the assistance, the suspect attempted to stab the victim in the neck with the sharpened end of his pencil, police said.
The victim pulled away but still received an injury about 2 inches long on the side of his neck, police said.
The suspect was suspended from school pending a superintendent’s hearing interviewed by the police department’s Juvenile Aid Division.
He was then charged with felony attempted second-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
