A man wearing a Freddy Krueger mask and holding a machete in one hand and a Bowie knife in the other hand robbed an Oak Lawn store Sunday evening, police said today.
About 7:09 p.m., the masked man walked into the Foodies Food Store, 9652 S. Pulaski Rd., and demanded money, said Oak Lawn Police Cmdr. Randy Palmer.
"The clerk actually said, 'You're joking, right?' and the guy says,' No, I'm serious,' " Palmer said.
The man was holding a machete in one hand and a Bowie knife in the other as he took the cash from the cash register and fled on foot, Palmer said.
He is described as a white man, between 37 and 43 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 280 pounds.
Along with the Freddy Krueger mask, the man was wearing a blue hoodie sweatshirt and khaki pants, Palmer said.
Palmer said the clerk, who was working alone, was able to look through eye holes on the mask to determine the man's skin color.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
