Woman charged with DUI manslaughter when passenger dies

CLEARWATER (Bay News 9) -- A 32-year-old woman is facing DUI manslaughter charges after her passenger was killed during a car accident.

According to reports, just before 2 a.m. Friday, Nicole Marina Scholl was driving south on the U.S. 19 frontage road, just south of Sunset Point Road while her passenger, 22-year-old Anthony Steven Campaign, was hanging out of the front passenger window.

Deputies said Scholl lost control of her car, side-swiped the passenger side of the vehicle, then struck a power pole.

Campaign was killed instantly. His body was thrown from the van.

Scholl was not injured in the accident, but she was taken to Bayfront Medical Center as a precautionary measure. Deputies said she showed several signs of alcohol impairment, both at the scene and at the hospital.

When Scholl was released form the hospital, she was arrested for DUI manslaughter and taken to Pinellas County Jail. She remains in jail without bond.
