Man beats neighbor's toy poodle to death with a brick 'because he felt threatened by it'

A California man has been convicted of bludgeoning his neighbor's toy poodle to death with a brick - beating the animal so savagely its snout caved in. Authorities allege the suspect, a man from Redwood City, Calif., struck his neighbors' dog repeatedly on March 26, 2012 and responding police officers found the 12-pound poodle whimpering and convulsing in a pool of blood. The suspect reportedly told the police he had hit the dog with a brick. The dog, named 'Globsis' since its paws look like small gloves, had to be put to sleep due to the extent of his injuries. The defendant, 32-year-old Marcos Montano-Topete, said in an interview with reporters from KTVU outside the courtroom last week that he felt threatened by the dog, Montano-Topete said he grabbed whatever he could to defend himself and hurled it at the canine without even looking at what he had picked up. He denied striking the dog multiple times with a brick, which police found covered in blood and near the severely injured animal on March 26. According to the suspect's 16-year-old neighbor, Nataly Salazar, prior to the attack, the suspect approached her and told her he was sick of the dog coming onto his property.
