Four people killed by vehicles in New York ahead of Thanksgiving Day

Four people died in three accidents during a half-hour span Wednesday evening, cops said. A 54-year-old cyclist on his way home from work was killed in Queens when a truck hit him just before 5 p.m., cops said. The driver fled and is being sought by authorities.

Pedro Lopez of St. James Ave. was crossing Borden Ave. in Maspeth when a white commercial truck traveling on Maurice Ave. made a right turn and struck him, police said. "He was a very happy person. My father was humble and kind," said the victim's son Pedro Alonzo Lopez, 23.

At 5:15 p.m., an 88-year-old woman crossing Ave. C in Stuyvesant Town was struck by a Con Ed truck that turned right onto E. 16th St., cops said. The unidentified woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but she could not be saved. The driver stayed at the scene, cops said.
