Trooper shoots stunned deer in head after it refuses to move out of his way

A trooper shot a stunned deer in the head at point-blank range because it wouldn't move out of his way, new video shows. Shocking footage shows Michigan State Police officers trying to scare off the injured critter that got caught in the glare of their headlights. They are seen flashing their cruiser's lamps and sounding the siren before inching the car forward to nudge the terrified animal.

When that fails to work, a man — not believed to be a trooper but the one holding the camera — is heard saying: "He ain't goin' nowhere dude." Another man shouts: "Want me to grab that and drag it across the road?" The trooper then walks over to the creature, points the pistol at its head and fires. "Man down," says the cameraman, before making the noise of a falling tree and adding: "That's better than huntin'." It's unclear whether the deer died immediately as its legs can clearly be seen shaking. Michigan State Police has opened an investigation after the video, uploaded to YouTube on Tuesday, went viral. But spokesman Lt. Mike Shaw defended the officers, telling Fox 2 it did not appear their actions were unlawful.
