The 62-year-old was answering a knock at the door of his Enfield home about 6.00am (AEDT) when he was assaulted by two men, who then forced their way inside.
They ran into a bedroom where the man's 31-year-old son was sleeping, and stabbed him three times in the chest.
Police believe the stabbing was a targeted attack.
