Bible-thumping W. Va. child molester says ‘prancing’ 7-year-old tempted him: 'All have ... come short of the glory of God'

A former West Virginia church custodian said he molested a 7-year-old relative because she tempted him "by prancing around in short shorts." “God-fearing” Charles Brainard Hogan, 58, also confessed to assaulting the little girl after not having sex with his wife for three years. The gray-haired creep was sentenced Wednesday to 15 to 35 years. He tried to wriggle out of the lengthy term with a rambling, Scripture-quoting speech. "Romans 3:23 says, 'for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God,’" he told the court. "So nobody in this court can say they haven't committed any kind of sin, because if they do they are a liar," he added.

But he was cut off by Kanawha County Circuit Judge Paul Zakaib, who informed the Baptist pastor's son that he would also have to register as a sex offender for life. Assistant prosecutor Erica Lord dubbed the bespectacled pedophile a "monster." "He took a child's innocence away. Do you think any amount of therapy she is going through will ever erase what he did to her?" she asked. "He wants to come in here and give us a theology lesson. He comes in here and says, 'Poor me,'" she added.
