Police have now confirmed that an officer died of a self-inflicted wound and was found inside a car in front of a station house.
The name of the officer has not been released, but a police spokesman confirmed to MailOnline that the officer was 41-years-old.
His body was found inside his personal car parked in front of the 66th Precinct and is thought to have shot himself at around 7.30pm.
