A man accused of riding city buses looking for victims of sexual assault has been charged with raping an 18-year-old disabled woman in the back of a Los Angeles County transit bus last week. Prosecutors say 20-year-old Kerry Trotter pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to one count each of forcible rape and rape of an incompetent person, and two counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object. Authorities say Trotter and the woman boarded the bus at the same stop last Wednesday and he allegedly raped her in the back over a 10 minute period. The woman, said to have the mental capacity of a 10-year-old, was described by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as too scared to cry out. 'The victim told our detective that she was shocked, and didn't know what to do, and was in fear of her safety and her life,' sheriff's Sgt. Dan Scott told the Los Angeles Times.

A French court on Monday sentenced a Mexican monk to two years in jail for sexually abusing a high school student, just nine months after his conviction for molesting a 12-year-old boy. The 42-year-old monk, identified as Luigi, belonged to the Confreries des Freres Saint-Jean order. He was already under judicial supervision and had been restrained from leaving the abbey at Fley, near the town of Cluny in eastern France after receiving an 18-month suspended sentence for molesting a 12-year-old boy. He had denied that charge but did not appeal. The second sentencing came after a 17-year-old complained that the monk had plied him with beer spiked with drugs and then taken him to a hotel room and sexually abused him in May last year. Court upholds murder conviction in incestuous Cass County case

A Missouri appeals court upheld a Cass County man’s conviction Tuesday in the murder of a child he conceived during a long incestuous relationship with his daughter. Danial Morgan Rinehart, 51, is serving a life sentence following his 2010 convictions for second-degree murder, child endangerment, statutory rape, incest and two counts of abandonment of a corpse. Jurors heard evidence that Rinehart carried on an incestuous relationship with one of his daughters that began when she was 5 years old and produced four babies. Authorities found the bodies of two infants in sealed coolers in a shed on a small farm where the family lived north of Harrisonville. Another baby died in Oklahoma and was buried there. Only one of the babies, a boy, survived.

In his appeal, Rinehart argued that his trial judge should have acquitted him on the murder and child endangerment charges because the evidence did not prove that he “knew” he was creating a risk to the life or health of a child. The murder count was for a child, Jack, who was born Nov. 17, 2006, when Rinehart’s daughter was 17. Sickly from birth, Jack did not improve with over-the-counter medicines that Rinehart provided. And he refused his daughter’s pleas to take Jack to a doctor or a hospital, according to her testimony. Jack died in his mother’s arms in February 2007.

TOCHIGI — An 18-year-old youth has been arrested in Nasu, Tochigi Prefecture, after his girlfriend, with whom he had been living, was found dead. According to police, Manami Shiraishi, 18, was found dead at her apartment at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Fuji TV reported. Police said the youth, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Police said the suspect showed up at the police station at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and said he had strangled the woman he lived with. He was quoted by police as saying that the woman told him she wanted to die and that she had talked about committing suicide.

A Kansas City man was sentenced to 137 years in prison Thursday for a rape in which he was identified, in part, by his shoeprint on the victim’s face. Stephen J. Lockhart, 22, was found guilty after a weeklong trial in the April 30, 2011, attack on a 19-year-old woman he grabbed from her apartment steps in the 3700 block of North Walrond Avenue. Jurors recommended the 137-year sentence. During the hearing Thursday, the judge imposed a 122-year prison term on the rape conviction and 15 years for the assault, said Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd. Zahnd said Lockhart forced the victim into a car and threatened to snap her neck if she tried to escape. He raped her in a secluded area north of Tiffany Springs Park, choked her with a belt and stomped on her face. The woman fell in and out of consciousness, Zahnd said. The victim later walked naked about two miles to the 9600 block of North Hampton Avenue, where she knocked on a door for help. She had a swollen face, bloody mouth, cuts and scratches all over her body and ligature marks on her neck.

Stalker sent 1,000 emails to ex-girlfriend before killing her, police say

According to police, the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Hideto Kozutsumi, stabbed to death his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend, Rie Miyoshi, at her apartment in Zushi, on Tuesday, and then hanged himself from the balcony of the 2nd-story apartment, Fuji TV reported. Police said that a search of Miyoshi’s cell phone turned up over 1,000 emails sent from Kozutsumi over the course of two weeks. The content of the emails, which police say was largely the same, referred to a contract that Miyoshi breached when she married another man. Kozutsumi also demanded monetary compensation for the breach of contract, Fuji reported. Miyoshi’s husband was at work when the murder was committed at around 3 p.m., police said.

HYOGO — Police said Wednesday they have arrested a 40-year-old woman in Tanba, Hyogo Prefecture, after she allegedly stabbed her son to death. Fresno Gunman Shot Victims Execution-Style

Two men were shot in the head and died, Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said. A third was shot in the throat and was critically injured. A woman was shot in the lower back as she fled the violence. Jones then put his gun to the head of a fifth worker and pulled the trigger, Dyer said. The man escaped death only because Jones' four-shot gun was out of ammunition. Jones, a career criminal who was discharged from parole this summer, then ran out of the building, reloaded and fatally shot himself in the head.

The Supreme Court has heard that a Perth man told police he disposed of his mother's body after leaving her for a week with her wrists slashed in a running shower. Gunmen kill 18 in Pakistan bus attack

(Reuters) - Gunmen attacked a bus in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province on Friday, killing at least 18 people including a woman and a child, police said. Most of the victims died from fire caused by the attack at a petrol station in Khuzdar, a town about a four-hour drive from Quetta. The fire engulfed the van, the petrol station and four nearby shops. No further details were available. Several militant groups are active in Baluchistan, Pakistan's biggest but poorest province. The province faces a revolt by Baluch ethnic separatists, who are fighting a protracted insurgency demanding more autonomy and control over natural resources.

LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Fire crews had to cut away iron bars from a fence to rescue a man who had impaled himself on them. The man was intoxicated when he and another man tried to climb over a wall outside a Hollywood Hills home, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. One of the men got over the wall okay, however, the other man got stuck on an iron fence on the other side of the wall.

Pedro Espinoza was convicted on May 9 of first-degree murder. The jury also found true the special circumstance allegation that the murder was carried out to benefit a criminal street gang. In handing town the sentence, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Ronald Rose remarked on the callousness of the crime. "This defendant executed the victim in this as he lay defenseless and incapacitated on the ground, without a weapon," Rose said. 17-year-old Jamiel Shaw II, a standout football player at Los Angeles High School, was shot and killed near his Arlington Heights home in March 2008. Four days later, police arrested Espinoza, an 18th Street gang member who was in the country illegally.

Newborn baby girl found dead in Ibaraki parking lot

IBARAKI — Police said Friday that a newborn baby girl, with its umbilical cord still attached, was found dead in an apartment parking lot in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture. According to police, a man who was walking by the parking lot, noticed bloodstains on the ground, TBS reported. After following the trail of the bloodstains, he found the infant’s body face down beside a shed in the corner of the parking lot. Police said the child was naked and there were no external signs of injury on the body.

OTTAWA -- A 19-year-old woman somehow wrested a knife away from a man who broke into her room Thursday in a brutal sex attack that has stunned residents of a west Ottawa apartment. Tenant Sarah Kitney, 25, got the shock of her life when she answered a banging on her Elmira St. apartment at about 10 a.m. "There was a girl there, she was dripping blood. I noticed she was completely nude, except for a leather jacket," said Kitney, who gave the terrified woman clothing and towels. "She told me someone broke in, attacked her and had a knife." The woman also told Kitney she had been forced to perform sex acts. Kitney, whose unit floor was splattered with blood droplets, brought the woman inside and called police. Officers arrested a man a short time later. Neighbours said he was nabbed in a nearby unit.

"They were screaming and yelling at him to put his hands up," Kitney said. "They broke in, dragged him out. He was just in boxers and covered in blood." Sources said the 56-year-old man was stabbed in the groin, thigh and chest. According to neighbours, the man is a tenant of the building. The victim is believed to be part of a group of students who recently moved in for the start of the school year. Sources said the woman was asleep inside her locked unit when a man broke in. She suffered what witnesses describe as defensive wounds to her hands but somehow managed to get the knife away from her attacker, whom she did not know.

Special Judge John Gerkin followed the request of Washington County District Attorney’s Office in setting the bail for Brandon William Capps who was arrested Wednesday night on a complaint of killing Clara Jean Hammer, 81, with a baseball bat. Formal charges are expected to be filed Friday. Bartlesville police were called to Hammer’s home in the 4700 Block of Dartmouth Drive around 2 p.m. Wednesday after a neighbor found her body inside the residence. When police arrived, they found a baseball bat lying next to her body. “She appeared to have been beaten to death and exhibited injuries to her head,” according to court records. “The home was ransacked and furniture destroyed.”

'Kim and Patricia felt they’d have no trouble in passing this test,' Professor French explained. However, in a result they maybe should have seen coming, neither scored more than one hit in five from the readings. 'Despite expressing confidence throughout the experiment, neither were able to gain more than a single correct reading, a result entirely consistent with the operation of chance alone,' said Professor French. 'We are of course hugely grateful to Kim and Patricia for taking part, and wish them all the best.
