Health chiefs have revealed that alcoholics had been eating super-strength hospital hand gel to satisfy their craving.
Hospital trusts across Kent say patients and visitors have swallowed the gel – which has an alcohol content of 78 per cent – at least 15 times.
The gels are said to kill 99.9 per cent of germs including MRSA within 30 seconds.
