A single mother watched helplessly as an inferno consumed her Chicago apartment with two of her children, age 1 and 3, inside after she was locked out when she fled the burning building to save her 6-year-old son Tuesday morning.
Alicia Myles, who is seven months pregnant, tried to run back inside to rescue her other children but found that the door had locked behind her.
A police sergeant and and a tow truck driver ran to her aid and tried desperately to break down the door. The officer injured his shoulder in the attempt. But when they made it inside, it was too late. A wall of flames drove back the would-be rescuers.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
